It made me a faster strategist. Here's what actually works: **Auto Layout suggestions cut my component building time by 40%** I used to spend 20 minutes tweaking spacing and constraints. Now AI suggests the structure, I validate it in 30 seconds, move on. The creative work starts earlier. **Content generation for realistic prototypes** No more lorem ipsum or spending time writing fake product descriptions. The AI populates realistic user scenarios instantly. My stakeholder demos went from "I guess this could work" to "when can we ship this?" **Visual search across design systems** I can describe a pattern ("mobile checkout flow with Apple Pay") and it surfaces similar components across our entire library. This alone has saved our team from rebuilding the same components three times. But here's the contrarian part everyone's missing: The designers winning with AI aren't the ones automating their taste. They're automating the scaffolding so they can spend more time on the decisions that actually matter. AI can't tell you if your user flow respects someone's time. It can't identify the emotional gap in your onboarding. It can't sense when a feature is solving the wrong problem. It can make the boring parts disappear so you have more space to think about those things. The future of UX isn't "AI vs designers." Coming up with 6 different layout ideas used to take a full afternoon. Now I get them in 15 minutes—then pick and polish the best one. I was designing an onboarding flow and needed several layout directions to test with stakeholders. I wanted variety fast—not polished final screens. So I used a Figma AI plugin and a prompt-based image generator for visual variations. Then I tried AI:- 1- Write a short brief: user goal, tone, and brand constraints. 2- Prompt AI (Figma plugin): “Generate 6 low-fi wireframe suggestions for a 3-step onboarding flow.” 3- Generate microcopy with ChatGPT for each screen (1-line headings, 2-line description, CTA). 4- Create quick visuals (AI image generator for hero images and placeholders). 5- Pick the top 2 ideas, refine by hand, then test with colleagues. Results:- ⏳ Before: 3–4 layout concepts in 3–4 hours. ⚡ After: 6 rapid concepts in 15–20 minutes; 1 solid prototype ready in under 90 minutes. 💡 Impact: Faster iteration, more creative options, and stakeholders loved seeing choices early. A caution: AI sometimes invents weird UI elements or nonexistent icons. I always do a sanity pass and adjust spacing, accessibility, and real copy. Takeaway: AI helps with ideation and speed.
