I almost beat an international chess champion until he activiated /ultrathink extended thinking mode
I lost, but Chess.com engine shows +0.7 score so it was a pretty even and close game (at the time of the photo)
I also met a lot of wonderful people over the past few days including the Mayor of Vancouver (Ken Sim, FCPA, FCA ). He is a chill dude!
Back in my hometown to volunteer at Web Summit Vancouver!!!
If you're visiting from out of town feel free to ask me any questions, for
recommendations, or introductions to people in the startup/tech ecosystem!!
Also, I’m pretty stoked at the opportunity to play a round of chess with Danny Rensch, the co-founder of chess.com and international masters chess champion on Wednesday at 11am!

58% of recent graduates are still searching for their first job.
For previous generations? Just 25%. (Fortune, 2025)
The gap has more than doubled.
And the advice is always the same:
"Get experience."
But how do you get experience when no one will give you experience?
Unlike climbing mountains, careers aren't permissionless. You can't just show up and start.
That's why new pathways like externships are becoming popular.
Short, real projects with real companies where you can build actual deliverables you can show in interviews.
No application lottery. No networking your way in.
You simply sign up and start.

Openclaw this, Claude code that.
Being a recent grad / college student right now means you don't just have to put up with the AI noise (and j*b market), but figure it out (FAST!)
If you're sick of the noise, here are 4 externships that will teach you AI tools from scratch and will give you real company experience in WEEKS:
1. BeReal. Product Management externship, you’ll use AI tools like Perplexity, GPT and Canva to design and prototype product features for the BeReal app.
2. Pfizer Supply Chain externship, you’ll use Python, Gradio and LlamaIndex to leverage data extraction ML models to build an AI-powered prototype that can read scanned and digital documents.
3. Wayfair AI Agent Engineering externship, you’ll create AI agents that surface market and data trends used for business decisions using no code AI tools like n8n, Gemini and Mistral AI.
4. TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics externship, you’ll analyze data with Python in Google Colab and create visualizations with Power BI, Gamma.app, and GPT.

The kids aren’t alright.
I was skiing this weekend blasting The Kids Aren't Alright by The Offspring.
It came out in 1998.
Way before I was born.
And somehow the title still fits.
A lot of Gen Z is underemployed or unemployed.
Entry-level roles want 3 years of experience.
The traditional path stopped working.
Degree → Resume → Job
The reality is today no ones going to hire you unless you can show you’ve learned real skills and prove you can use them in a real-world context.
If you’re looking for a place where you can learn + work on a real project (with brands like TikTok, Amazon, Snapchat), check out Extern
It’s open to everyone, $10 a month, and it doesn’t matter what your GPA/major/prior experience is.
